Alright! Officially half-way on my actual novel. Maybe another year and I'll be ready to publish it. LOL. Anyway, here's a short excerpt:
"Jevin quickly grabbed a long branch from the fire and hurled it towards the source of the sounds.
Again, Myrell screamed in horror at the sight before them and Jevin's blood ran cold as his knees threatened to give way beneath him.
There in the forest stood a horrible, grotesque abstract of a human, towering several feet above them in height. The fluttering firelight at its feet exaggerated its terrible features, clad in greyish skin not unlike putrid meat with rippling tendons and muscles threatening to tear themselves free.
It looked as though some child had taken hard clay and jumbled it into a lumped, bulbous mass loosely resembling a human form, the limbs and head askew. Its offset eyes bulged from its head as though they should explode from their sockets at any moment and long, blood-stained teeth chattered from a lip-less face. A triangular hole, in place of a nose, searched the wilderness for the smell of a frightened victim.
Having concentrated its glowering eyes on two such prey, the creature lurched forward a step. When Jevin and Myrell stumbled back in fear it stopped to cock its gruesome head from side to side. The night had gone terribly quiet and time seemed to stop. Then, horribly, the drooling mouth grew wider in what Jevin could only guess was a sick smile.
A sudden shrilling cry rose from the monstrosity that drowned out all else, like the sound of a thousand young women howling out in terrible pain and suffering. Jevin wanted to fall to his knees and bury his face in his hands but he couldn't move. He was frozen in place by the horror in front of him.
Suddenly, with terrifying speed, it hurled itself at him and, reactively, he threw both himself and Myrell to the ground, narrowly escaping skewering claws, grasping for their flesh.
Jevin rolled onto his back to watch where the monster had gone.
Its sheer mass had more momentum than it could gracefully handle and it was slamming into trees opposite Jevin in an attempt to slow itself.
Quickly, Jevin scanned the vicinity for anything he could use to fend off the creature. He grabbed a large stone and was aware of Myrell frantically attempting to dislodge a large, burning log from the fire pit. By now, the creature was again steady on its feet and its bloodshot, protruding, eyes searched for a victim.
Jevin rose to his feet and saw with dread that the behemoth was now eerily fixated on Myrell, who was still struggling with the fire pit log. Jevin yelled out to her as he watched the grotesque miscreation's muscles tighten, preparing to pounce on its prey."

So, Just finished compiling the first of my Little Ant series. They'e just a few little stories following the life of a young ant who is learning about the world he lives in. They're self-illustrated so, please be gentle with your criticism.
